Passive Voice: Passive voice produces a sentence in which the subject receives an action. In contrast, active voice produces a sentence in which the subject performs an action. Passive voice often creates unclear, less direct, wordy sentences, whereas active voice creates clearer, more concise sentences.
To change a sentence from passive to active voice, determine who or what performs the action, and use that person or thing as the subject of the sentence. Ref: BecauseHemilton
수동태 또는 피동태는 언어학에서 말하는 태 중의 하나로, 어떤 문장의 주어가 그 문장의 동사가 나타내는 행위의 피행위자일 경우를 의미한다. 주어가 행위자일 경우인 능동태에서 전환이 가능한 경우가 종종 있다. Ref: 위키백과
Morning JAY!! It is Friday right here at this Chrono Point. I'm right before my computer in my office. And this post is being written all by my hands. 오늘은 이 Passive에 대해 알아보는 첫 날이야!!! 한번 보자!!
1. When things happen to the Subject(주어), we use Passive.(= 대상이 어떠한 행동이나 상황에 대한 동사를 받는 입장으로 말을 할 때, 수동형으로 말한다.) | 콜로세움은 언제 세워졌을까?
● 콜로세움은 서기(AD) 80년에 세워졌다.
= Colosseum was built in Anno Domini 80.
◎ Subject(주어) = Colosseum
● 로마제국은 서기(AD) 80년에 콜로세움을 세웠다.
= Roman empire built Colosseum in Anno domini 80.
◎ Subject(주어) = Roman empire
◎ 위에서 볼 수 있듯이 각 문장에서의 Subjective(주어)가 다르고, 그 Subjectibe(주어)가 Verb(동사)를 직접 실행하는 것이냐, 아니면 그 Verb(동사)를 받거나 당하는 것이냐의 차이야. 보라 아래 이미지를 보면 [Active(능동) -> Passive(수동)]으로 형태의 변화 과정 한번 보면 바로 이해할 수 있어.
2. Using Passive(수동태) for telling someone or somthing causes the action is often unkown or unimportant. | 모르는 일? 중요하지 않은 일? 그러면 Passive(수동형)을 써봐!!
◎ 주로 정황을 잘 모르거나 별로 중요하지 않은 일이나 행동이 이루어졌다 말할 때 Passive(수동형)을 사용해 말 하기도 해.
● 많은 양의 돈이 도둑질 당했다.(= 훔쳐졌다) 그 강도(사건) 안에..
= A lot of money was stolen in the robbery.(= someone stole the money, but no one knows who did.)
● 이 방은 매일 치워지나요?
= Is this room cleaned everyday? (Does anyone clean this room, everyday? - It's not important who does, but the truth is the action event(cleaning) happens everyday.)
3. Basic use of Passive(수동형) | Breaking Bad(브레이킹 배드)_ I'm done(= 나는 되어 졌어요= 난 끝났어= 나 그만둘래)!
● 당신 그거 알아요? 난 끝났어요! 알겠어요? 당신은 그저 내게 내 돈을 주세요...
= You know what? I'm done! Okay? You just give me my money...
4. Questioning Passive(수동형 질문) / Are you done?(= 너네 다 끝났냐?) | Gladiator(러셀 크로우)_ 즐거우십니까!!!! | Balck panther(블랙 팬서) M'baku(음바쿠): 하품
● 너무 즐겁게 하는구만(즐거움을 주는군)!!
= So entertain!!
● 당신들은 즐거워지지 않습니까!!!
= Are you not entertained??
● M'Baku: 우아함~~~ 너희들은 되어 졌냐?(= 너네 다 끝났냐?)
= Are you done?
