Bruder. Tom Hardy가 다시 돌아왔어. Conjunction(접속사)를 이번엔 Lawless라는 영화로 같이 보자!.
1. unless(~이지 않는 한) / Guard: 죄송하지만 비회원이시면...
Example; The Double R Club run by Reggie
● Guard: 그 클럽은 멤버들만을 위한 곳 입니다. 당신이 한 멤버가 아닌 한 안으로 갈 수 없습니다.
= The club is for members only. You can't go in unless you are a member.
◎ 이건 곧 멤버들만이 클럽을 이용할 수 있다는 것을 말하는 것 이고 다른 말로 같은 의미를 전달할 수 있어. 한번 보자. [unless = except if]
= You can't go in except if you are a member.
= You can go in only if you are a member.
● 내가 늦게 일 해야 하지 않는 한 내일 너 볼거야. (= 야근 안하면 낼 볼 수 있을거야.)
= I'll see you tomorrow unless I have to work late.
● 우리가 지금 떠나지 않는 한, 우리는 늦을 거야.
= Unless we leave now, we'll be late.
= If we don't leave now, we'll be late.
2. As long as / So long as = ~인 한은 | Provided / Providing = (만약) ...라면.
◎ As long as, So long as, Provided (that), Providing (that)은 모두 'if'또는 'on condition that'으로 충족되어야 할 조건같은 것을 설명할 때 서두에 등장시킬 수 있어.
● Forrest Bondurant: 너가 너무 빠르게 운전하지 않는다고 약속하는 한 넌 내 차를 빌릴 수 있어, Jack.
= You can borrow my car [as long as / so long as] you promise not to drive too fast.
● Howard Bondurant: 만약 너가 주차할 어딘가를 갖고 있으면 차로 여행하는건 편하지.
= Travelling by car is convenient [provided (that) / providing (that)] you have somewhere to park.
3. Lawless(로우리스: 나쁜 영웅들_더 독한 놈이 이긴다!) 톰 하디(Forrest Bondurant): 니가 내 동생인 한 어디가서 맞고 돌아다니는 꼴은 못봐주겠다.
● Jack Bondurant: 난 아무 도움도 필요없어.
= I don't need no help.
● Forrest Bondurant: 오, 너가 필요 없다고? 있잖아. 니가 내 형제인 한은, 넌 이런 일이 다시는 일어나게 두지 않을 거야(하면 안되지)... 너 이해했어?
= Oh, you don't? Here it is. As long as you are my brother, you will never let this happen again, do you understand?
