Aloha Jay brother~! Have you heard about the EOD(폭발물 처리반), the Explosive Ordnance Disposal? If not, well, I got something to show ya.
1. hear about(~에 대해) / of(~을) / from(~로부터).
◎ 지난 시간에도 언급했듯이 Verb(동사)뒤에 따라붙는 Preposition(전치사)가 어떤 것이냐에 따라 의미가 달라지게 돼 있어. 한번 하나씩 살펴보자.
'hear + about' (~에 대해 말해지다/듣다)/(= be told about spomething)
● 넌 어제 그 호텔에서 그 불에 대해 들었니? (= 어제 그 호텔에서난 화재사건에 대해 들었어?)
= Did you hear about the fire at the hotel yesterday?
● 난 그것에 대해 아무것도 못 들어 왔어.
= I've heard nothing about it.
'hear + of' (~이 있다는걸 알아채다/~에 대해 듣다)/(= know that somebody/somthing exists)
● Guy Pearce가 누구야?
= Who is Guy Pearce?
● 나도 몰라. 난 그에대해 절대 들어본 적 없어.
= I have no idea. I've never heard of him. (not hear from him)
'hear + from' (~로 부터 듣다/~와 연락된다)/(= be in contact with somebody)
● 넌 최근에 Sam으로부터 들어 본 적 있니? (= 최근 Sam이랑 연락한 적 있어?)
= Have you heard from Sam recently?
2. think / dream / complain / remind / warn about(~에 대해) / of(~을).
◎ hear 외에도 다른 Verbs(동사들)을 예로 들어 보자.
Verb + about(~에 대해 ~하다)
● 나 지난 밤 너에 대해 꿈꿨어.
= I dreamt about you last night. (when I'm asleep)
● We complained to the manager of the restaurant about the food.
= 우린 그 요리에 대해 그 식당의 그 매니저에게 항의했어.
● Andrea, 저사람은 누구니? 저 여자에 대해 내게 상기시켜줘. (= 저 여자에 대해 알려줘.)
= Andrea, who's that? Remind me about that woman.
3. The Hurt Locker_ Sergeant Matt Thomson: 저 사람들한테 딴 생각할 뭔가 좀 던져주게나.
● Guy Pearce: 난 그냥 그것을 설치해 둘 걸세. 그리고 우리는 그것을 그것을 날려버릴거야. 이 사람들에게 생각할 뭐라도 좀 주게나.
= I'm just going to set it up and we'll BIP it. Give these people something to think about.
